The superb rendition of the complex mottle night camouflage scheme for night sorties over Britain from Villacoublay, France is the most striking and intriguing feature of this model. The camouflage is so effective that the model aircrafts' outline appears blurred and you have to look for the details. All the wing and fuselage panel outlines are present in the die-cast model. Crew figures are fitted in the cockpit, front and upper gun positions, plus machine guns protrude from the sides and belly of the aircraft. Bomb bay doors can be opened, plus raised and lowered landing gear parts and a stand are provided to display the aircraft in flight or on the ground.

more | Corgi 1/72 Heinkel HE111H-6 1G & HK 2/KGr27 Russia 1943 (AA33705) Operation Barbarossa, Hitler's invasion of Russia, opened with an unprecedented level of ferocity, and the Luftwaffe's bombers were at the forefront of the action. German bombers launched raid after raid against numerous targets and played an essential role in the speedy conquest of vast tracts of land. German bombers were called upon to fly in conditions, which varied, from the heat of the Crimea to the frozen wastes of the Arctic. As the tide turned, the Luftwaffe took heavy punishment and, by the end of the war, Hitler's bombers were flying increasingly desperate missions intended to stem the advance of the Red Army. Defeat in North Africa and the disastrous loss of the Sixth Army at Stalingrad were undoubtedly huge blows to the Wehrmacht, but the most critical battle of 1943 was fought at Kursk. In Spring 1943, the Russian front bulged into the German lines between Kharkov and Orel. Features include detailed engine, moving flaps, rudder, ailerons and elevators, opening bomb bay, detailed interior and display stand.

more | Corgi 1/72 USAF Boeing B-17E Flying Fortress Yankee Doodle 414 Sqn 97th BG 1942 WW2 (AA33304) The first B-17s saw combat in 1941, when the British Royal Air Force took delivery of several B-17s for high-altitude missions. As World War II intensified, the bombers needed additional armament and armor. The B-17E, the first mass-produced model Flying Fortress, carried nine machine guns and a four thousand-pound bomb load. It was several tons heavier than the prototypes and bristled with armament. Upon their arrival in the UK the US Army Air Force re-acquired several B-17Es built for the RAF and these still carried the Dark Earth/Dark Green & Pale Blue camouflage of the RAF. This B-17E took part in the first USAAF combat mission of the 8th Air Force daylight bombing offensive, an attack on the railway marshalling yards at Rouen, France, 17th August 1942. more | Corgi 1/72 B-24H Liberator - 'Pistol Packin Mama' - 464th BG, USAF (AA34010) This aircraft survived almost a year in the frontline prior to being ‘retired’ following its 43rd mission. It was then converted into a group ‘hack’ transport, with its turrets removed, although the ex-bomber proudly retained all markings, including nose-art and mission symbols. Depicted here in it’s full bomber role, as it flew in operations in Italy 1944 for the 464th Bomber Group. Notable for some extravagant nose art and mission symbols (which are applied in the form of pistols rather than bombs) and extra nose glazing. ‘Pistol Packin’ Mama’ returned to the US in 1945. The 464th Bombardment Group (H), consisting of HQS, the 776th, 777th, 778th and 779th Bombardment Squadrons, was activated at Wendover Field, Utah, on 1 August 1943. The Group moved by air and truck to its permanent base at Pantanella, Italy on 1 June 1944. Lt. Colonel Sylvan D. Hand, the Deputy Group Commander, was lost on the second combat mission, the target being the Parma West Marshalling Yards, Italy on 2 May 1944. Colonel Marshall Bonner, Group Commander, was lost on combat mission over Vienna, Austria, on 26 June 1944. | |

more | Corgi 1/72 German Heinkel He-111H Luftwaffe Ottana Sardinia (AA33704) Commonly regarded as the torpedo bomber H6 version of the HE 111, the H-6 saw use on all fronts including the campaign in North Africa. The aircraft depicted here is in the Mediterranean camouflage from KG 26. KG 26 was the main anti-shipping torpedo geschwader of the Luftwaffe in the Second World War. KG 26 reached the height of their effectiveness attacking convoys over the Baltic as they sailed from the UK to Murmansk in Russia. They developed a tactic they called the ‘golden comb’. This involved the torpedo-carrying HE 111s attacking all at once in line abreast formation at low altitude at dusk when visibility was at its poorest.
