Corgi 1/72 P-47D Thunderbolt 'Miss Mary Lou' 19th FS 1944 (AA33803)

Ready made diecast model, complete with display stand and undercarriage, of 'Miss Mary Lou'  a P-47DUSAAF 19th Fighter Squadron 218th Fighter Group, Saipan, Marianas. Model wingspan 175mm. Pilot figure in the cockpit and a good representation of one of the hard working aircraft that proved decisive in the Pacific war.

The 19th Fighter Squadron was transported to Saipan aboard the USS Natoma Bay in 1942. Immediately in action, its aircraft were used in both day and night missions with bombs and rockets in support of advancing US ground troops. In just a three month period, after Saipan the squadron went on to support the invasions of Tinian and Guam. Subsequent employment was found in escorting long range bomber missions. The P47D had a maximum speed of 426 mph and was powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-2800-59W Double Wasp engine of 2535 hp. Armament comprised 8 x 0.5" machine guns plus 2 x 1000lb or 3x 500 lb bombs or 10 5" rockets - all carried externally.
