Yes! It does look like a Boeing B29! To save time developing a bomber of their own, in 1944 the Soviet Union obtained 3 Boeing Superfortress bombers from the USAF, dismantled and analysed them and began making copies in 1945. Final production totalled 300.

The Tupolev was powered by 4 x 2,400 hp Shvelsov ASh-73TK radial piston engines which gave a maximum speed of 347 mph. Maximum height attainable was 36,745 feet while the range was 3.169 miles. Five machine guns or 20mm cannons were carried and the maximum bomb load was 17,637 lb (8000 kg). | |
