The appliance was purchased by West Hartlepool Borough Council in 1951, and started its career as a pump escape carrying one of the last Bayley wartime design wheeled escapes.It attended many large incidents noteably the 'famous' North of England Match Factory Fire on August the 30th 1954. In 1960 the appliance was given new lettering and transferred to the new station on Stockton St. where it served until 1971
