Boeing Stratocruiser - Northwest Airlines. The Stratocruiser was distinctive in appearance and was one of the great pioneering classic piston-engined airliners of the late 1940s & 50s. Only 56 were built ,so it was a matter of status and pride to fly one. N74601 was the 16th aircraft off the production line and was delivered to Northwest Airlines on the 29th July 1949, it was last bought by Aero Spacelines for spares use in 1963 and was broken up at Santa Barbara,California, in 1967
