The Viscount was the first turboprop airliner to be put into service powered by four Rolls Royce Dart engines and first flew 16th July 1948.
When Capital Airlines ordered British Viscounts in June 1954, this was a great boost for the aircraft industry, as the order totalled 60 V.744 aircraft. They entered service in July 1955 and were a great success. United Airlines took over the airline and inherited 41 of its Viscounts , United were very impressed with the Viscount and ordered a further six. They gave sterling service throughout North America until the last service was flown on 14th January 1969.
