The C-130J is the newest version of the Hercules and the only model still produced.Externally similar to the classic Hercules, the J model is in fact a radically different aircraft.These differences include new Rolls Royce Allison AE2100 turboprops with six-bladed composite scimitar propellers,digital avionics reduced crew requirements (2 pilots -no navigatror or flight engineer) increased reliability and up to 27% lower operating costs

The 15th Air Force was constitued on 30th Oct.1943.Activated in the Mediterranean on 1st Nov.1943, they began operations on 2nd Nov.and engaged primarily in strategic bombardment of targets in Italy, France, Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Austria, Hungary and the Balkans until the end of the war.Radar equipped aircraft were known as Mickey ships and this particular B-24 was converted to the role after its nose had been badly flak damaged during a mission

The Canberra TT.Mk.18 was a target-tug variant of the B-2 converted by E.E. and Flight Refuelling.It was fitted with underwing pylons for two Rushton winches, one under each wing, employing sleeve or Rushton Mk.2 targets.The TT.18s were very distinctive with yellow and black stripes on the underside.The first conversion for the RAF flew on the 14th April 1970 and joined the RAF's 7Sqn. in the July of that year.The Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm flying target facillities unit was originally known as No.776 Fleet requirements Unit and was based at Hurn, Bournemouth, in the late 1960's

The B(1)8 Canberra lost the one-piece "glasshouse" bubble canopy so "loved" by aircrews and sported instead a fighter type canopy.This was the offset from the aircraft's centreline giving the B(1)8 a very distinctive profile shared by the photo-reconn variant. 14Sqn (RAF Wildenrath) lost their B(1)8's in June 1970 after 8 years with the night intruder

The DH airframe 6477 started life as the very latest Comet 4C and was subsequently converted to become the first prototype Nimrod.Built at Chester as a Comet 4C in 1962.When Hawker Siddeley developed plans for the Nimrod it was decided to complete XV148 as the aerodynamis prototype .XV148 moved to RAE Bedford in 1977 and was finally retired from use in 1982.

14. VC-10 C1s were delivered to 10 Squadron between 1966 and 1967.The C1 was a variant of the civil 'Standard VC-10' fitted with the wing and more powerful engines of the 'Super Vc-10' .The C1 can carry 139 passengers in rear facing seats, eight standard pallets or up to 78 medical evacuation stretchers.The strengthened floor allowed the C1 to transport 1,000ib bombs for the Tornados GR1 force during the Gulf War

The bulk of the RAF's air-to-air refuelling fleet comprises VC10 K3 and K4 aircraft flown by 101 Squadron based at RAF Brize Norton.ZA140/A was the first VC-10 tanker to enter service on the 25th July 1983 as K.Mk.2.Together with the Victor tankers, it was invaluable during the 1991 Gulf War and the number of refuelling sorties are recorded on the starboard side of the nose.In 2001 the VC-10 made its last flight as a tanker

An excellent model of the Douglas C47 Dakota transport presented here with D-Day invasion forces recognition stripes. These aircraft led the invasion, dropping paratroops behind German lines to attack and disable the 'Atlantic Wall'.
