Corgi 1/72 German Heinkel He111 Model Condorlegion 1940 WW2 (AA33711) The Heinkel He-III was the most distinctive sight in the skies above Southern England, during the dark days of the Battle of Britain. The sight of the massed formations of the Luftwaffes main medium bomber is surely one of the most enduring images of the summer of 1940. This image surely demonstrates the incredible bravery of the young RAF pilots, who raced to engage the enemy, often in the face of overwhelming odds. Heinkel crews fought hard, but without effective fighter support, they suffered heavily at the hands of RAF fighters.
Ultimately, the failure of the Luftwaffe to pound Britain into submission was to lead to the postponement of Operation Sealion and the eventual re-deployment eastwards to the vast expanses of Russia.
KG53 Condorlegion Heinkels operated out of Lille-Nord between the dates of May 1940 and June 1941.
Corgi 1/72 Lancaster Grand Slam Bomber 617 Sqdn YZ J U Boats Pen Raid (AA32616) On 27th March 1945, 617 Sqn bombed the U-Boat Pens at Farge, Germany. These pens were one of the largest concrete structures on earth at the time and of the 20 Lancasters used on the raid, 14 were equipped with the huge 22,000lb Grand Slam Bombs the highest number ever used on a single mission. 2 Grand Slams found their target and detonated rendering the pens unusable. No aircraft were lost. The raid was led by Group Captain Johnny Fauquier, a Canadian who assumed command of 617 Sqn in December 1944. He flew PD119, YZ-J, which was possibly the most distinctive of 617 Sqn, B.1 (Special) Lancasters. Whilst the aircraft wore a daylight camouflage its port rear rudder was damaged, probably by Flak on the 21st March and with no replacements readily available one was borrowed from another plane which wore a black night camouflage scheme, it remained this way until the end of the war.

Corgi 1/72 Vickers Wellington Mk1A Medium Bomber 9 Sqdn RAF 1939 (AA34801) The first RAF unit to be equipped with the Wellington was No.99 Squadron based at Mildenhall which received its first aircraft on 10th October 1938. On 4th September 1939, 14 Wellingtons from Nos.9 and 149 Squadrons attacked enemy warships off Brunsbuttel in an abortive raid in which most aircraft failed to find their target. Those that did were to see that their bombs were mostly ineffective against the shipping they attacked. This Wellington was piloted by Sgt. Frank Petts and was decorated in the standard dark earth and dark green upper surfaces with the night undersides for the night time bombing missions they were largely involved in following a disasterous final day bombing mission on 18th December 1939 which saw 12 of 24 Wellingtons destroyed. No more unescorted daylight raids were undertook till the end of the war and night bombing techniques were developed in which the Wellington featured strongly. 1/72 scale Wellington features rotating gun turrets, clear canopies working bomb doors with authentic bomb load and fully detailed crew. more..
Corgi 1/72 Consolidated B-24 Liberator You Cawnt Miss It 448th BG (AA34007) The role of the assembly ship in the history of the Liberator is often overlooked. Their use was to help assemble a group formation by providing a point of contact easily visible by all the others Liberators in the group and as such these were often decorated in gaudy fashion. Once the group was in formation the mission leader would take the lead and the assembly aircraft would depart and return to base. As such they were often stripped of all guns. Within the Eighth Air Force they were also known as 'Judas Goats' as they were felt to be leading the other B-24s to their slaughter. 448th BG was the last of the Eighth Air Force B-24 units to go operational in December 1943 beginning their life with B-24D's.
