At the outbreak of World War ll, Robert Scott, one of the best known American aces of World War ll, desperately sought a combat assignment to get out of a training unit, and accepted a transfer to a secret B-17 task force. On July 4th 1942 he was selected to command the 23rd Fighter Group which had been newly formed from the deactivated Flying Tiger.He led this prestigious group in combat and personally accounted for 13 Japanese victories.
