The model is of an Me262A-1a version, a fighter with a top speed of 544mph. This fully finished and pre-painted model has a distinctive and authentically rendered camouflage paint scheme, represents “Red 13” of III./EJG2 flown by Heinz Bär in March 1945, in the closing months of the war in Europe. One notable feature of this outstanding model jet is the option of two canopies that allows the model to be displayed with the cockpit open or closed. Needless to say, the cockpit is fully detailed for viewing. This is another superlative Warbirds model of an extremely important aircraft that represented a milestone in the jet age

Germany’s Me262 was the world’s very first operational turbojet-powered aircraft, allowing it to outmaneuver and out-sprint Allied fighter escorts. It actually began development in April 1939, the eventual result was a fighter that marked a significant leap forward in aircraft design. However, the two Jumo 004 jet engines on each fighter were also a weak point, as turbojets were still in their infancy. The average jet engine’s operational lifespan on an Me262 was a mere 12 hours!
