| | more | Dragon Wings 1/72 USAF P-47D Razorback Turnip Termites 47th FS with Airfield Base (50304) A P-47D is the subject of a new Dragon Warbirds release. The finely crafted miniature from Warbirds is a P-47D Razorback version, so-called for the sharp ridge on the upper fuselage behind the pilot’s canopy. The model depicts a P-47D of the 47th Fighter Squadron, which was activated on 1 December 1940 and was initially based in Hawaii. The model bears the colourful logo of “the Turnip Termites” squadron and the plane is finished in a predominantly silver colour. The squadron was credited with shooting down eight Japanese aircraft during the infamous Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour on 7 December 1941, while it also went on to serve in other theaters of combat. Interestingly, the 47th Tactical Fighter Squadron is still in existence today flying the A-10 Warthog. This is a spectacular model and it is enhanced by an authentic-looking scenic base that comes with the scale aircraft model. The diorama shows a section of airfield that is beautifully textured and painted in a most realistic fashion. | |
