Once sold that is it! | Hobby Master 1/72 McDonnell Douglas A-4E 1059 VA-126 Top Gun Aircraft Model (HA1406) True 1/72 scale, professionally painted with great attention to detail. All markings are tampoe'd (pad applied). It is optional to display the model onthe stand that is provided or can be shown with the landing gear down. Loads of optional armament has been provided. Canopy opens. Very nice! VA-126 was established in 1958 to provide fleet instrument training. Over the years they became VF-126
and provided aggressor training. In 1967 the A-4E was being replaced in the fleet and they became the
perfect choice to simulate the Mig-17 because of the small size, maneuverability and smokeless trail.
Originally the Naval Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun) was established in 1969 as part of VF-121. It
quickly expanded to become the fleet school. VF-126 kept playing the bandit role until their
disestablishment in 1994.
Developed to replace the A-1 Skyraider the A-4 Skyhawk was extremely lightweight maneuverable inexpensive and didn’t need folding wings. One of the upgrades saw 499 A-4E’s built, some received a lighter weight 8,500 lb thrust engine and some late production planes had the 9,300 lb thrust engines as well as an upper fuselage “hump back” avionics pod added. All had one hard point added under each wing, re-designed center fuselage, air intakes, and airframe strengthening with bomb and navigation upgrades. Because of all the missions and tonnage of weapons delivered the A-4 was dubbed “The Workhorse of Vietnam”, this is "The Little Plane That Could". Eight A-4E’s were sold to Royal Australian Navy. | |
