of the same airframe. They were AT-6, Harvards, Yale, Texan, SNJ, Wirraway and a few others.
These planes were fully aerobatic and could present the student pilot with some situations
where he learned to do things correctly or else. These planes were the stepping stones to the
more advanced Spitfires and Mustangs of this era. From the 1930s to the 1960s the Harvard
was not limited to just the training role. It was also used as a combat aircraft and became part of
almost every major power inventory. Like the Huey helicopter the Harvard had its own distinctive
sound caused by the propeller tips going supersonic.

Brewster, a company with absolutely no prior experience of building fighters, produced the F2A-2. Management promised more than they could deliver and production fell way behind expectations until the US Government stepped in and took control. The first mono-winged fighter for the Navy, the F2A-2 was underpowered and plagued by landing gear problems but nevertheless was a part of the tremendous upsurge in US naval aviation. more..
more | Hobby Master 1/48 Brewster Buffalo 339-23 A51-13 25 Sqdn RAAF Dunreath West Australia 1942 Sergeant John Bailey (HA7008)
The stubby Brewster Bufalo was the US Navys' first mono-wing aircraft. The design was rapidly rendered obsolete, being totally outclassed by German and Japanese carrier based aircraft. However in the??hands of a pilot who understood its' ability to fly??at??a speed too slow for the opposing fighters to engage easily??the Buffalo was a potent weapon.
This model is painted in the colours of USN squadron VMF-221, as flown by Captain William C Humberd at the Battle of Midway in June 1942. Captain Humberd received the Navy Cross for his actions, claiming one Zero and one Kate.

the outbreak of war in Korea the T-6s received a makeover. They were given special
radios and ADF, increased firepower and provision for an extra 55 gallons of fuel. The
equipment received by the Austrian Air Force didn???t have the setup for rockets and
missiles because of a restriction placed on them forbidding their use until the 1990s. Even
the machine gun capabilities were removed. Once again the plane was strictly a trainer.

built as a long-range fighter using parts that were available from the earlier Beaufort. Using
these parts made it possible to complete the first aircraft a little more than 8 months after the
concept. The Beaufighter was over shadowed by the Mosquito???s success but it was the
Beau that was there in 1940 and 1941 helping to defeat the German night ???Blitz???. The Beau
served in the Pacific as well as Europe. The Japanese referred to the aircraft as
???Whispering Death??? because of its ability to strike and disappear so quickly. The last
Beaufighter was produced on September 21, 1945 making aircraft 5,562. Of the 5,562 there

more | Hobby Master 1/48 FW 190 A-8 JG 26, Oberstleuntnant Josef Priller, June 1944 (HA7405) In 1937 even though the Me-109 was a very capable fighter the Reichsluftfahrtministeriun
(RLM) or Reich Air Ministry was worried that future foreign designs might surpass its
performance so they called for submissions of designs. Kurt Tank won the competition with his
radical use of an air-cooled radial engine that he dubbed the Fw-190 W???rger (Butcher Bird).
There were many skeptics who believed this new aircraft would surpass the performance of the
Me-109. However when the Fw-190 entered combat in the summer of 1941 it already was
Germany???s premiere piston-powered WWII fighter. Over 20,000 of all variants of the Fw-190
were built with 13,291 of these being of the 9 different ???A??? variants.

larger fuel tanks in the leading edge of the wings making it possible to fly missions as far as
Berlin at altitudes over 40,000 feet. By the end of production 225 XIX had been made.more..

because of the lack of range the fighter escorts had. German fighters would wait beyond the
range of the Allied fighters and then attack the vulnerable bombers. Once the P-51 called
Mustang by the British had the Allison engine replaced with a British Merlin it possessed the
high performance that had been lacking. With drop tanks the P-51 had the range to escort
bombers all the way to Berlin and back.
