The only RAF Squadron in the Middle East to operate the FR.Mk9 was No 208 Squadron, which had been based at Hal Far, Malta until it moved to Nicosia in Cyprus in March 1956, where it mounted patrols to seek out terrorists in Cyprus, returning to Malta in August the same year. With the arrival of Meteors came new squadron markings of bars flanking the roundels comprising sky blue and yellow horizontal bands, denoting the sky and desert.These markings are still carried today.
