Eleven years after officially resigning from the sport of motorcycle racing on June 3, 1978, Mike Hailwood participated in the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man with the Ducati 900SS. This race turned out to be one of the greatest triumphs in Ducati history. With an average speed of 174.6 km/h on his 2 cylinder desmo single overhead camshaft Ducati and despite the fact that his bike had about 15 PS less output than the tough competition Honda and Kawasaki, 'Mike the Bike' achieved a spectacular victory.
