The F/A-18C "Hornet" is a single seat multi-role fighter/attack (hence F/A) aircraft designed for seaborne carrier operation. Flown by the US Navy and Marines the F/A-18 is capable of fleet air defense, reconnaissance, ground attack roles, providing air support of ground forces and day or night strike missions.
Digital 'fly-by-wire' control systems provide excellent handling qualities and exceptional maneuverability, allowing the pilot to concentrate on mission objectives and weapons. The digital avionics suite has been relatively easy to upgrade on a regular, affordable basis, keeping the Hornet on top of any adversary.
The revised F/A-18C came with improved night attack capability and carries the Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) and infrared imaging Maverick air-to-ground missile systems.

In addition to the US naval forces the F/A-18 is flown by the air or marine forces of Australia, Canada, Finland, Kuwait, Malaysia, Spain, Switzerland and Thailand.
