The RTW was London Transport's first 8 foot wide motor bus - six inches wider than its predecessors. 500 were built by Leyland Motors Ltd, between 1948 and 1950 and first ran on surburban routes because of concerns about difficulties in operating in narrow streets. After successful trials they were quickly moved into Central London and became a familiar sight throughout the 1950's and early 60's.
