The multi-mission F/A-18E/F "Super Hornet" strike fighter is an upgrade of the combat-proven night strike F/A-18C/D. The Super Hornet will provide the battle group commander with a platform that has range, endurance, and ordnance carriage capabilities comparable to the A-6 which have been retired. The F/A-18E/F aircraft are 4.2 feet longer than earlier Hornets, have a 25% larger wing area, and carry 33% more internal fuel which will effectively increase mission range by 41% and endurance by 50%. The Super Hornet also incorporates two additional weapon stations. This allows for increased payload flexibility by mixing and matching air-to-air and/or air-to-ground ordnance. VFA-27, or Strike Fighter Squadron 27, is a U.S. Navy fighter squadron that flies the F/A-18E Super Hornet. The unit is also known by its nickname “Royal Maces”, the mace being a medieval handheld weapon designed to pierce heavy armour. Such weapons were used by royal bodyguards in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and they came to symbolize authority and the rule of law and order. VFA-27’s F/A-18 Hornets participated in Operation Enduring Freedom in 2001 flying against Al Qaeda and the Taliban, they also saw extensive combat in 2003 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The squadron departed the USS Kitty Hawk in May 2004 in order to begin transitioning to the F/A-18E Super Hornet. This they duly completed at NAS Leemore in October of the same year.more.. | |

This scale aircraft depicts an American F-16D 2-seater Block 30of the 80th Fighter Squadron, which is currently deployed at Kunsan Air Force in the Republic of Korea. This fighter of the “Headhunter” Squadron bears the tail code “WP” and is part of the 8th Fighter Wing known as “Wolf Pack” based at Kunsan. This FW has 40 F-16 Fighting Falcons ready to defend South Korea and to take the fight north if necessary. This collectors’ item bears a striking three-colour camouflage scheme that has been accurately painted, plus all the appropriate markings such as the wolf’s head on the tail of the original fighter.
