A fantastic large scale model of the iconic Supermarine Spitfire Mk.1A with a wingspan of 700mm/27in.
This model is painted and detailed as P9386 of 19 Squadron, flown by Squadron Leader Brian Lane DFC during September 1940. The models are individually crafted from a variety of materials including photo-etched and machined metal parts, machined sand castings, die-cast & plastic moulded parts and a resin formed skin over a hand built metal skeleton. Extensive research from Supermarine archives and drawings, plus the close co-operation of the owners, restorers and maintainers of airworthy Spitfires has ensured that this replica is as accurate and authentically detailed as available knowledge allows.
Many of the hatches and cowlings can be opened or removed. The engine cowling reveals a fully detailed Merlin III power plant, opening the cockpit canopy and flap door reveals a fully detailed cockpit interior and the radio hatch reveals the radio pack inside. A fully retractable undercarriage is fitted and the flight control surfaces are posable. The model is completed with a polished wood base and aluminium display support, featuring a tilt ability to allow your model to be displayed to best advantage.
To complete the package of this extra special model you will receive a specially commissioned book by Dilip Sarkar (MBE FRHistS) covering Squadron Leader Brian Lane and the Mk IA Spitfire, with a framed certificate of authenticity signed by Dilip Sarkar and John Milne (Brain Lane’s Air Frame Rigger) as provenance this is an authentic replica. A model care kit containing cotton gloves for handling, duster and blower brush ensures you have the right tools to preserve your model collection.

This 1/16 scale pricision replica pays tribute to the aircraft and one of it's pilots, Squadron Leader Brain Lane, one of the fabled 'Few' who flew the Spitfire Mk.1A throughout the Battle of Britain.
This superlative model has been detailed based on actual research from a restored Mk IA Spitfire and has been referenced against original Supermarine drawings. Several acknowledged experts have contributed to the development of this model, in particular the team from the Shuttleworth Collection who are responsible for the maintenance of an airworthy Spitfire. Corgi is also pleased to draw upon the experience of the renowned World War Two historian, Dilip Sarkar (MBE FRHistS), who’s assistance has been invaluable in terms of historic accuracy of the plane flown by Brian Lane. Clive Denney of Vintage Fabrics, who recovers and paints Spitfire’s for a living has also added extensive expertise to this exquisite replica.
This model comes with a specially commissioned book by Dilip Sarkar, which narrates the life of Squadron Leader Brain Lane and tells the remarkable story of his involvement with the most famous aircraft ever produced. The book shows never before seen images of Brian Lane, his ground crew and fellow pilots. In addition the book has extracts from Brian Lane’s log book which gives a fascinating insight into the life of a fighter pilot. Also included are testimonies from veterans who served with one of the great fighter pilots of the Battle of Britain.
